Bogged Down

So, you can’t seem to grow anything in that low wet area of your yard except a mediocre stand of blue grass.  You’ve cut back your own sprinkler system, but your neighbor hasn’t changed his four times a day sprinkler program in the six years since he moved in and installed his blue grass!  That wet spongy spot in your yard is a man-made bog.

Don’t despair.  There are a myriad of plants to select from that not only withstand boggy conditions, but actually thrive in it.  Consider the following when planning your boggy area:

Trees
Silver of Soft Maple
Red Maple
Serviceberry
River Birch
Hackberry
Autumn Purple Ash
Poplar
Swamp White Oak
Willow
Arborvitae
American Linden

Shrubs
Chokecherry
Dogwood
Quince
Willow
Elder
Spirea
White Snowberry
Arrowwood
Nannyberry
Weigela

Perennials
Astilbe
Canna Lily
Daylilies
Hosta
Siberian Iris
Cattails
Cardinal Flower
