Did you know that some houseplants have the ability to clear our indoor air of common impurities such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene?  These impurities are by-products of many things that surround us in our daily lives such as carpeting, drapes, furniture, computers and printers.  Breathing this polluted indoor can lead to runny noses, sneezing, headaches and breathing problems.

According to a two-year study conducted by NASA scientists and the Agricultural University in Oslo, Norway, some of the best plants for filtration include:

• Bamboo Palm
• Dracaena Marginata
• English Ivy
• Philodendron Selloum
• Golden Pathos
• Snake Plant
• Rubber Plant
• Spider Plant
• Peace Lily

These studies recommend up to 18 plants be place throughout an 1800 square foot home / office to achieve a cleaner breathing environment.  Many of these plants are offered at Phelan Gardens in our greenhouse year-round.
